The Bentley Torcal vs Genesis GV90 comparison brings together two very different interpretations of the next-generation luxury electric SUV.
One comes from a British ultra-luxury brand with more than a century of history.
The other comes from a much younger Korean luxury brand attempting to move further upmarket than ever before.
And both are important.
The new Torcal is Bentley’s first fully electric production vehicle, combining extraordinary EV performance with the handcrafted materials and personalization expected from Bentley. Bentley Media
The GV90 is equally significant for Genesis.
It sits above the GV80 as the company’s new flagship SUV, with a huge three-row cabin, a 123.5-kWh battery and a special GV90 Neolun version designed to push Genesis toward the highest levels of luxury. Genesis Newsroom
But these two SUVs aren’t really trying to accomplish the same thing.
The Bentley appears designed around the person behind the wheel.
The Genesis puts considerably more emphasis on the people sitting behind the driver.
And that makes this comparison much more interesting than simply looking at horsepower.

*Genesis lists front and rear motor maximum outputs separately at 240 kW and 250 kW; that should not automatically be interpreted as simultaneous system output under all conditions. en
Immediately, one difference stands out.
The GV90 is much bigger.
The GV90 Is a True Full-Size Flagship
The Torcal may look substantial in photographs, but Bentley hasn’t simply built an electric Bentayga.
At 197 inches long, the Torcal is actually relatively compact by ultra-luxury SUV standards.
Bentley describes it as a five-seat SUV, with a 119-inch wheelbase. en
The GV90 is enormous by comparison.
Genesis lists it at 5,285 mm long—about 208 inches—with a 3,245-mm wheelbase, or roughly 128 inches. Genesis Newsroom
That’s roughly:
11 inches longer overall
and
9 inches longer between the axles.
That extra space fundamentally changes the vehicle.
The Torcal is closer to a luxurious high-performance crossover.
The GV90 is designed more like an electric luxury limousine transformed into an SUV.
Bentley Takes the Performance Advantage
This is where the Torcal becomes very serious.
The standard Torcal uses two electric motors producing 809 bhp and 1,155 Nm of torque.
Bentley claims:
0–60 mph: 3.3 seconds
Top speed: 155 mph en
And that’s the regular version.
The Torcal S increases output to 876 bhp and 1,350 Nm.
With Launch Control activated, Bentley says it can reach 60 mph in only:
2.8 seconds. en
That’s extraordinary performance for a luxury SUV.
Bentley also calls the Torcal S the most powerful production Bentley it has ever built. en
The GV90 isn’t positioned around headline acceleration in the same way.
Genesis lists motors rated at up to 240 kW at the front and 250 kW at the rear, but its official global specifications don’t currently publish a directly comparable U.S. 0–60 figure. Genesis Newsroom
The emphasis is different.
Torcal: The Driver’s Luxury EV
Bentley clearly wants the Torcal to feel like more than a silent luxury appliance.
It includes:
- All-wheel drive
- All-wheel steering
- Bentley Active Ride
- Individually controlled hydraulic suspension
- Multiple driving modes
- Performance-oriented Torcal S variant
Bentley’s next-generation Active Ride system can control each wheel individually, helping reduce body roll while allowing different suspension behavior depending on the driving mode. en
Rear-wheel steering also turns the rear wheels by as much as five degrees.
At low speeds they turn opposite the fronts, helping reduce the turning circle to approximately 11 meters.
At higher speeds they turn in the same direction to improve stability. en
That’s a lot of engineering dedicated to making a large, heavy EV feel smaller and more agile.
GV90: The Passenger’s Luxury EV
Genesis approaches luxury from almost the opposite direction.
The GV90 isn’t primarily about producing supercar acceleration numbers.
Its big story is the cabin.
The vehicle introduces Genesis’ Arch Gate door system—large opposing doors that open the cabin dramatically when entering the vehicle.
Then there’s the second row.
The GV90 is available with large individual executive-style seats designed to create something closer to a private lounge than a traditional SUV.
This follows the philosophy first shown by the Genesis Neolun concept.
Genesis is essentially asking:
What if the best seat in the SUV isn’t the driver’s seat?
That’s a very different philosophy from Bentley.
This Could Be Genesis’ Most Important Interior Yet
Genesis has been moving toward more minimalist interiors for years.
The GV90 takes that approach further.
Rather than filling the dashboard with separate screens, the cabin uses a huge integrated display stretching across much of the dashboard.
Genesis’ U.S. preview highlights a 24.6-inch display, while the cabin incorporates premium audio, advanced ambient lighting and high-end materials. Genesis
But the most interesting part may still be the second row.
The long 3,245-mm wheelbase gives Genesis enormous room to create a rear-seat experience that smaller electric SUVs simply can’t match. Genesis Newsroom
That’s where the GV90 begins moving beyond normal Genesis territory.
Bentley Still Has the Craftsmanship Advantage
Genesis can compete with Bentley on technology.
Competing with Bentley on craftsmanship is harder.
The Torcal interior combines curved digital displays with materials including handcrafted veneers, leather and Dinamica upholstery.
Bentley is also introducing some unusual materials.
One is a 100% Merino wool automotive fabric developed with British textile manufacturer Fox Brothers.
Another is an Ombré Walnut veneer produced partly from walnut offcuts and recycled paper. Electrek
Then there’s Bentley’s enormous personalization program.
Colors.
Leather.
Stitching.
Veneers.
Trim.
Special finishes.
A Bentley buyer can create something much closer to a bespoke vehicle than most mainstream luxury brands can offer.
That’s part of what the much higher price buys.
The Torcal Even Reimagines Engine Sound
One of the strangest Torcal features is something Bentley calls the Dynamic Symphony.
Instead of simply creating a synthetic imitation of a gasoline engine, Bentley recorded real musical instruments—including drums, viola and bass—to create an acceleration soundtrack inspired partly by the character of Bentley’s historic V8 engines.
The sound changes with speed and torque demand.
And importantly, drivers can turn it off. Electrek
It’s a fascinating attempt to solve a problem luxury performance EV manufacturers are still figuring out:
How do you make an electric car emotionally engaging when the engine noise disappears?
Battery Size: GV90 Is Bigger
The Torcal uses a:
113.2-kWh battery. en
The GV90 uses a larger:
123.5-kWh battery. Genesis Newsroom
But battery size alone doesn’t determine range.
Vehicle weight, aerodynamics, motor efficiency, wheels, tires and software all matter.
Bentley currently claims up to approximately 373–375 miles depending on how its published figure is presented, based on the European-style range figure of up to 600 km. en
For U.S. buyers, however, the important number will ultimately be the EPA rating.
The same caution applies to the GV90.
Until final U.S.-spec EPA figures are available, comparing the two using one market’s test cycle against another would be misleading.
Bentley’s Charging Speed Is More Interesting Than Its Range
Bentley claims the Torcal can charge from:
10% to 80% in approximately 16 minutes
under suitable conditions. en
At a sufficiently powerful charger, Bentley also says the Torcal can add more than 150 miles of range in ten minutes. en
That may ultimately matter more than whether one SUV travels another 20 or 30 miles on a full battery.
Fast charging changes how an EV behaves on long trips.
A 15–20 minute charging stop feels very different from sitting at a charger for 40 minutes.
The GV90 Has the Family Advantage
This comparison changes completely if you need three rows.
The Torcal is a five-seat SUV.
The GV90 is designed as a large three-row flagship.
For a family with children—or anyone regularly carrying more than four passengers—that may matter more than horsepower, acceleration or handcrafted wood.
The GV90 also has the advantage of that enormous wheelbase.
It’s not simply about fitting additional seats.
It’s about creating more space around them.
In that sense, the GV90 is closer conceptually to vehicles such as an electric Mercedes-Maybach GLS alternative than to the Torcal.
The Torcal Is Easier to Imagine Driving Every Day
The Bentley has another advantage because of its smaller dimensions.
At approximately 197 inches long, it’s almost a foot shorter than the Genesis.
That matters in:
Parking garages.
Urban streets.
Shopping centers.
Tight driveways.
The all-wheel steering helps further.
Bentley says the Torcal has an approximately 11-meter turning circle, impressive for a vehicle of this size. en
So despite its price and performance, the Torcal may actually be the easier vehicle to use every day.
Price Could Be the Biggest Difference of All
And then we arrive at the elephant in the room.
The Bentley is expensive.
U.S. pricing reported by WardsAuto, citing Bentley’s head of product communications, starts at approximately:
$218,000 for the Torcal
and
$258,000 for the Torcal S. WardsAuto
And that’s before Bentley personalization starts pushing the price higher.
Genesis has not yet published final U.S. GV90 pricing on its consumer preview page. Genesis
That makes it premature to calculate an exact value comparison.
But the GV90 doesn’t necessarily have to beat the Bentley at everything.
If Genesis can provide a comparable sense of occasion, a larger interior and flagship technology at substantially less money, that’s an interesting proposition on its own.
Genesis Is Entering New Territory
This is perhaps the most interesting part of the entire comparison.
Nobody is surprised that Bentley can build a $200,000 luxury SUV.
That’s Bentley’s world.
Genesis is attempting something different.
The brand that began selling luxury sedans as Hyundai models is now building a flagship electric SUV with:
Huge dimensions.
Executive rear seating.
Coach-style doors.
Advanced EV architecture.
And design intended to compete much higher in the luxury market.
The GV90 therefore represents more than another Genesis SUV.
It’s a test of how far buyers are willing to follow the Genesis brand upmarket.
Torcal vs GV90: Driver or Passenger?
This may be the easiest way to understand the two vehicles.
Choose the Bentley Torcal philosophy if you prioritize:
Performance.
Driving dynamics.
Smaller exterior dimensions.
Handcrafted materials.
Personalization.
Brand heritage.
Exclusivity.
The Torcal S’s 876 bhp and 2.8-second 0–60 time make it particularly appealing to someone who still wants the driver to be the center of the experience. en
The Genesis GV90 philosophy emphasizes:
Three-row practicality.
Second-row comfort.
Interior space.
Passenger experience.
Technology.
A more dramatic full-size-SUV presence.
And potentially a very different price point.
This is luxury designed around being transported as much as driving yourself.
Bentley Torcal vs Genesis GV90: The Bottom Line
The Bentley Torcal vs Genesis GV90 comparison is unusual because these vehicles overlap without being direct substitutes.
Bentley has built a five-seat electric SUV that tries to preserve the performance, craftsmanship and emotional character associated with the brand.
Genesis has built something much larger—a three-row electric flagship designed around space, technology and passenger luxury.
The numbers demonstrate the difference.
The Torcal S produces 876 bhp and reaches 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. en
The GV90 stretches to 5,285 mm with a massive 3,245-mm wheelbase and a 123.5-kWh battery. Genesis Newsroom
One is essentially asking:
How exciting can an ultra-luxury electric SUV be to drive?
The other is asking:
How luxurious can an electric SUV become for everyone inside it?
And perhaps the most interesting part isn’t whether Genesis can build a better Bentley.
It’s that the GV90 is ambitious enough for the comparison to make sense at all.
Compare with Reason.
